Eastside is an annexe built onto our home to accommodate elderly parents, one of whom was an occasional wheelchair user. It has now been completely modernised to provide a safe comfortable and welcoming environment for our guests.
It is all on one level with a large driveway and designated parking directly outside the door. The parking area is well lit as is the entrance way via the main house door or the conservatory.
Called Eastside because it is on the eastside of the property therefore you get the early morning sun in the kitchen and lounge areas, what could be better to wake up to?

*Being a rural property most people arrive by car and detailed directions are sent out prior to arrival.
*The nearest bus stop is approximately 400metres at the top of the lane.
*The nearest train station (Peterborough) is 8 miles away; there are accessible taxis at the station.
You can arrange for shopping to be delivered for your arrival and we are happy to put this away for you.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
We are situated at the end of a small lane with no passing traffic. The property is well lit to guide you and the nameplate is also illuminated.
•the parking area is levelled concrete and flat, even and wide.
•There is space for more than one car cars if necessary.
*There are 2 entrances. One via the main house porch and the other via the apartment conservatory. Both have doors wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair and both are flat. The front door entrance has a small door lip of 40cm.
If you are arriving when we are not at home or late at night ,there is a secure keybox by the front door. The number to access the key is given to you at the time of booking.
The keybox is 145cm high. Arrangements can be made for the key to be left somewhere more accessible if this is an issue.
The entrance door keyholes are 90cm high
There is a bell if we are at home. This is 150cm high.
The door is 90cm wide.
The front door gives access to a porch with 4 doors leading off it. The dimensions of the porch are 160cm x 295cm. The 4 doors lead to the apartment, the back garden and our part of the property. All doors are kept locked. The keys for guests use during their stay are left in the porch and these give access to all areas except our part of the house.
•The door leading into the apartment is 82cm wide and hinged on the right.
On entering the apartment you find it is a large open plan lounge/dining/kitchen with an inner hallway leading to the bathroom, bedroom and conservatory.
As the lounge has no window direct to the outside there is a sunpipe bringing daylight in via the ceiling. However the lounge is very bright for most of the day as the kitchen windows face east.
It is furnished with 2 large sofas, one of which is a metal action sofa bed. A reclining chair is available on request.
The flooring in the lounge is carpet and a fireside rug which can be removed if required.
The light switch is 150cm high. In addition to the chandelier light fitting there is a table lamp and a reading lamp.
There is a 27” plasma TV with Freeview, which can have subtitles enabled and a DVD player, both with remote controls.
The flooring here is rhino floor.
There is a round table that seats 4, height 76cm
The spaces around the table measure an average of 94cm.
The programmer for the central heating is on the wall at a height of 146cm.
The oven is in a tall oven housing unit to the right of the entrance door. The door drops down and the handle is 104cm high. The oven can be accessed from either side when the door is open.
Above this is a housing unit for the microwave. – height 132cm. There is a lot of worksurface and the microwave can be placed on this if this would make it more easily accessible.
The hob is a halogen one, inset into the worktop at a height of 92cm. When the rings are on they show as a bright red light as do the switches.
The sink unit is under the window at a height of 92cm. There is also a dishwasher next to the sink.
The fridge is a tall 50/50 fridge freezer with the fridge on the top half. The handle for the fridge is 160cm high.
An electric can opener is provded.
This a 3' opening off the main area that gives access to the shower room and bedroom. Also in this area is a mirrored sliding cupboard for coats etc in one half and hoover/broom etc in the other. This cupboard also houses the gas central heating boiler. The switches to set this are 140cm high.
This is also where the smoke alarm is situated, it is an electrically wired one connected to our part of the house so if there is a fire in either part both alarms will ring.
The flooring is non slip ceramic tiles and the walls and shower are fully tiled. The flooring in the shower are the same non slip tiles.
Directly in front of you as you enter the shower room is a cupboard housing the washing machine and tumble dryer. The dryer sits on a shelf above the washer. The controls for the dryer are 180cm high.
To the right is the towel rail at 102cm high, and the shower. When the door is open the opening measures 55cm. The internal measurements of this are 115cm x 87cm. The shower head is adjustable from 140cm to 194cm. The controls are 105cm high. A shower perching seat can be provided if required.
The toilet is situated between the shower wall and the external wall. This measures 75cm. The toilet height is 40cm and the flush control is 80cm high.
The sink is an offset pedestal one at a height of 80cm. The space between the shower and the sink is 106cm wide.
The switches for the mains for the washer dryer, shower and light all hang in the corner. The washer dryer pull is 178cm off the ground. The others are adjustable to the most suitable height.
There is a pine bed with a 5’ mattress and memory foam topper. This brings the height of the bed when sitting on it to 46cm.
The space to the right of the bed measures 86cm and 95cm to the left. The space at the bottom of the bed between the bed and the sliding mirrored wardrobes is 83cm.
There is a centre light fitting with a light pull over the bed. In addition there are bedside lights.
The flooring in the bedroom is oak laminate. There is a sheepskin rug either side of the bed, these can be removed if required.
Leading off the bedroom is the door to the conservatory. 74cm wide
The conservatory is on the north facing wall so does not get full sun keeping it at a more comfortable temperature. There is a fan to keep it cool in the summer and it is heated via the central heating during the winter so is available to use all year round.
The flooring in here is oak laminate.
The conservatory is furnished with a 2 seater sofa, two chairs and a footstool. The chair sitting height is 40 cm. The internal measurements are 200cm x 200cm. One chair can be removed to accommodate a wheelchair if required.
The conservatory is used by most guests as the entrance as it is just a few steps from the designated parking area. The doorway is well lit with a light sensitive light that switches itself on when it gets dark. The doorway is 82cm wide. There are 2 rubber backed door mats to enable ensure shoes can be wiped to keep the floor from getting slippery. There are also coat hooks here to enable wet clothes to be hung to dry.
Although there is no central light in here there are a couple of table lamps on the window sills. One of these is directly inside the door.
The outer door leads onto the decking area that has a small ironwork table and chairs. This decking adjoins the concrete footpath leads onto the parking area. This is all one level.

There are a number of local organisations that loan equipment such as commodes, raised toilet seats etc. These include the Royal British Legion, Crowland Cares, the Lions and Crowland Cancer Fund. Of course there are also some private companies that will loan mobility scooters, walking aids etc
We are happy to accommodate mobility scooters in our garage. We also have a folding wheelchair available.
We are happy to move furniture to accommodate particular requirements.
The Queensgate shopping centre and the serpentine shopping centres both operate Shopmobility schemes.
